Sources added that three abducted leaders of Telugu Desam Party were asked by the Maoists to call down immediate ban on bauxite mining in the state border area and to attend a meeting conducted by them. Ignoring the call and words of advice of Maoists, three leaders skipped the so called meeting and demands of the rebel group.

Assuring that they won’t harm the leaders, Maoists called down the leaders for friendly talks through their network at Dharkonda yesterday from where they are conceived to have abducted. District police chief K Praveen said “when the leaders agreed and went to meet the Maoists they were held captive.”

Close aides of the leaders informed police about the abduction of the three leaders who failed to return after the promised time period, last night. Mr Praveen said “We have verified (the information). The only possibility is that the Maoists will take them in the deep interior forest area towards the border of East Godavari district. We are waiting for the Maoists to put forth their demands” while addressing media briefing about the incident.

Earlier Maoists threatened the state administration about extreme action if they failed to meet their demands while the leaders and government had failed to respond to them.
