Arya Permana is just 10 years old but weighs a baffling 192 kgs! The boy, from Cipurwasari village, Indonesia, has been named the world’s fattest child, whose morbid obesity made the international headlines. Now, he is being put on a very strict crash diet to save his life.

Arya was born as a normal kid but around the time he was two years old, he started gaining weight at an abnormal rate for his age. His appetite grew monstrous and so did his meal portions. According to his parents, Arya has an enormous diet and can actually eat meals of two adults in a single sitting. He eats five meals a day including rice, beef, fish, soy patty and vegetable soup but remains constantly hungry.

His father says: “I have insufficient money to buy food to fulfil his large appetite. I borrow money so that he can eat. Of course, I cannot keep him starving.”

He wears only a sarong, a large piece of fabric often wrapped around the waist, as other clothes simply do not fit him.

He can barely walk and spends most of the time either eating or sleeping. The maximum activity he does is to walk or crawl to the family bathtub where he loves to spend his time. Otherwise, there’s no activity the boy has ever done.  He even had to quit school as he is unable to walk.

Now that Arya’s weight possesses a serious threat to his life, his mother has put him on very strict diet. He will now only be fed brown rice that his mother believes is the only thing that can stall his monstrous growth.

“My son is always tired and complains of shortness of breath. He is growing up at a rapid rate and I am worried for his health. I do not know any other way to stop him from gaining more weight than to give him less food,” Arya’s mother, Rokayah says.

Arya’s parents cannot allow costly medical treatment for their son abroad but local doctors refuse to help the boy as they did not find anything abnormal about his alarming weight gain.
