Minor Girl Gangraped at ‘Birthday Party’ in Thane, 3 Arrested

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by two persons on Tuesday at a birthday party at Kopri in Thane. Friends of an innocent 15-year-old girl tricked her, they said they were taking her to a birthday party, but they took her to a chawl in Thane and gangraped her.

All the five accused, including a woman, have been arrested. The police said that initially the victim was unable to recall the sequence of incidents as she was force-fed a spiked drink. However, later when she gained consciousness, she narrated the sequence of events.

According to the victim, who lodged a police complaint on Monday night almost a week after the incident took place on September 30, said she was invited by Kaustubh Chavhan (21) to his flat on Monday evening on the pretext of celebrating a friend’s birthday.

The girl, resident of Thane’s Ghodubunder Road locality was picked up by Kaustub Chavan on a bike after which she was taken to a chawl near Bharat English College in Kopri area. Kaustubh and four others were already present at home.

The police said, once she reached there, they gave her a spiked drink forcibly and beat her up when she tried to resist the drink. “Chavhan’s sister Dipali Ahir, who is married, was also among the five persons who forced the victim to have the spiked drink. After she fell unconscious, taking advantage of her state, tChavan and another friend of his – identified as Mandaar (30) took turns to rape her while Ahire stood guard watching over the criminal assault. Later, they took her in a car and threw her near her building early in the morning on Tuesday.”

The victim informed her family who then approached the police and a case of rape was registered.

The Kopri police registered a complaint under sections 376(d), 323, 366(A) rw 34 of the IPC and also 3, 4, 5, G of the POCSO Act of 2012. . All the three accused were produced in court on Tuesday where they have been given police custody till October 10.

Investigation officer Sadhan Ingle from Kopri police station said, “We have sent the accused and the victim for a medical test. The reports are awaited. Further investigations are on.”
