Modi Not Welcome: UK Activists Project Image Against Him On British Parliament

Soon after the debacle in the Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi got another shock! With just days to go for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UK the sections opposing his visit has made there displeasure loud and clear, quite literally.

Britain based secular network of activists, individuals and organisations — Awaaz Network — protested against the visit of Indian Premier in United Kingdom by featuring a clear message at the Palace of Westminster in London on Sunday saying “MODI NOT WELCOME”.

On 9 November at 9 P.M., a message saying ‘MODI NOT WELCOME’ was projected on the UK parliament along with an image of the PM wielding a sword.

Narendra Modi wants to sell the idea of a ‘Digital India’, a ‘Clean India’ and a developed and self-sufficient India, the reality is the unleashing of a violence authoritarian agenda that seeks to undermine India’s democratic and secular fabric,” a spokesperson of the group said.

The Protesters also planned a protest march on November 12 from 10 Downing Street to Parliament Square. The march is planned a day before Modi is expected to address a large gathering at London’s Wembley Stadium.

They have also made a video to explain why they are protesting against Narendra Modi’s visit to the UK.

Meanwhile, Avaaz Foundation which has been getting a lot of flak for this campaign has clarified that it has nothing to do with ‘Awaaz Network’.

The projection at UK Parliament has no connection with us. It has been executed by some organisation called Awaaz Network. Avaaz Foundation is a 42-million strong global civic organisation with subscribers in almost every country in the world,” a spokesperson said to Indiatimes.

While the supporters for Modi have been busy putting up a spectacular show in Wembley, such protests might just spoil the party.
