On Diwali 17 Cases of Burn, Eye Injuries Reported At Mohali Hospitals

On this Diwali, the Mohali district witnessed at least 17 victims of burn/eye injuries, including seven children and a 60-year-old woman. The old woman Darshan Mehta is from Kharar was in critical condition as she was 40 per cent burn injuries and shifted to the PGI.

According to the reports Darshan Mehta, was decorating her house and lighting candles at the time of the incident. Her clothes caught fire when a lit candle accidentally fell on her. She was shifted to Fortis Hospital from where she was referred to the PGI.

Also the Six-year-old Amit, Ankit (9), Jashan (8), Kirti (11) and Gunjan (12), who sustained burn injuries, were also brought to the hospital with burn injuries which are minor.

Civil Hospital and Fortis Hospital spokesperson said that “The remaining victims are with minor injuries and were discharged after treatment”. The victims included 19-year-old Gaurav Sharma from Phase V, who received burn injuries on his hand and leg while bursting crackers. After treatment, he was discharged from the Mohali Civil Hospital.

Two youths, Sanjay Kumar and Rohit Kumar, both from Sector 56, sustained burn injuries while bursting crackers. Both were discharged after the treatment, said the Civil Hospital authorities.

Fortis authorities said that “As many as three patients of burn injuries were brought to the hospital last night. Darshan Mehta, who received 40 per cent burns, was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh while Akashdeep Singh (25) and Ramneesh Kaur (38) were discharged after the treatment”. Also, all the government hospitals made the special arrangements for the burning injuries on Diwali.
