This Patient Played Saxophone While Surgeons Operating On Him To Remove Brain Tumour

This patient in Spain played the Saxophone while the surgeons operating on him. Surgeons in the Spanish Hospital became the first in Europe to successfully remove a brain tumour while the patient was conscious. Meanwhile, when the Surgeons are operating, the patient played his favorite instrument Saxophone.

Aguilera, a 27-year-old saxophonist, was conscious during the 12-hour surgery at the Regional Hospital of Malaga. Aguilera is a member of a Malaga orchestra. He played to help himself prevent the damage during the operation while on sedatives but was given no general anesthetic. Aguilera was sedated and given pain killers but remained awake.

Aguilera appeared at a press conference alongside his surgical. “Without music I am nothing,” Aguilera said. I am diagnosed with a brain tumour after suffering dizzy spells and feared that I might never play again. “Two months ago I was on the operating table and now I have my life ahead of me, I have been brought back to life,” he said.

Guillermo Ibanez, the neurosurgeon who led the medical team carried out an operation that has been pioneered in California. “The patient is a profession musician and his life is all about that,” explained Ibanez. “It was the only way to operate without damaging the part of the brain involved in musical language,” the surgeon explained.
