Watch PM Modi Addressing the joint meeting of US Congress:
Here Are The Key Points From the Modi Speech:
1. We thank you for being there when the partnership was needed the most. India will never forget when the US showed solidarity as terrorists attacked Mumbai in 2008.
2. Although terrorism’s shadow is spreading across the world, it is incubated in India’s neighbourhood.
3. For my government, the Constitution is its real holy book. And in that holy book, freedom of faith, speech and equality of all citizens are enshrined as fundamental rights.
4. India’s people are already politically-empowered. I want them to be economically empowered by 2022 – the 75th anniversary of Independence.
5. India lives as one, India grows as one, and India celebrates as one.
6. President Obama and I have agreed that India as a permanent member of the UN Security Council has to be an intrinsic part of this century’s new reality.
7. We trade more with the US than any other nation.
8. Three million Indian Americans are among your best CEOs, academics, astronauts, scientists, economists, doctors, even spelling bee champions.
9. SIRI (Apple’s virtual assistance) tells us that India’s ancient heritage of Yoga has over 30 million practitioners in the US. It is estimated that more Americans bend for yoga than to throw a curve ball. And, no Mr. Speaker, we have not yet claimed intellectual property rights on Yoga.
10. Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreements has changed the very colours of leaves of our relationship.
