Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is very active on Twitter, on Monday greeted the country on the occasion of Dhanteras, the first day of the five-day Diwali festival. As he zoomed past the 15 million follower mark and pulled himself into the spot of second most followed world leader on Twitter, he took Twitter to Greet Nation On Dhanteras.

Dhanteras is auspicious for buying gold:

Dhanteras is also regarded as an auspicious occasion to buy gold and silver to herald prosperity. Narendra Modi last week launched three ambitious schemes – Gold Monetisation Scheme (GMS), Sovereign Gold Bonds Scheme and Indian gold coin and bullion – to reduce the physical demand for gold and fish out 20,000 tonne of the precious metal worth USD 800 billion lying idle with households.

On Dhanteras, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped for wealth and prosperity. On this day, not only gold and silver, but people indulge in buying other forms of wealth like property, new vehicles, etc. Even buying a few utensils is considered symbolic and auspicious. This festival is an important day for the business clan of India.
