Punjab State Govt. Conferred with 5 Awards in Renewable Energy Domain

Five awards have been conferred to the Punjab New and Renewable Energy Department for its prominent role in empowering the state to turn up towards the generation of renewable energy sources. Punjab New and Renewable Energy Department is bestowed by the union government with highest capacity addition in grid-connected solar rooftop power in the country during the budget year of 2014-15.

5 Awards are Bestowed to Punjab New and Renewable Energy Department

Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Sri. Piyush Goyal awarded Punjab New and Renewable Energy Department with these five awards while laying the foundation stone for Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of State in Bengaluru.

The four major domains which earned awards for the Punjab New and Renewable Energy Department are its outstanding performance in achieving highest progressive grid connected solar rooftop power capacity, deployment of highest progressive numbers of solar water pumps, highest capacity addition of off-grid waste to energy plants and achieving highest capacity addition in grid-connected solar power in the country.

Punjab bags 5 awards in renewable energy sector

Bikram Singh Majithia, the State Minister of Punjab for New and Renewable Energy said in an official statement that the environment of ‘Ease of Doing Business’ combined with the strong facilitation attracted Rs 7,500crore investment in the state in this sector. He further added that “These awards are stamp of approval on our claims that despite being 2 percent of the total country area, Punjab is leading the way in renewable energy capacity addition in the country.”
