Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and its allied organizations warned Indian cinema superstar Rajnikanth. Its was reported that BJP and its sister organizations such as RSS and VHP have admonished the gifted actor Rajnikanth not to act in an upcoming movie which is proposed to be screened with him playing the lead role. There have been speculations that Rajnikanth would be playing the lead role in a movie which is believed to be made by a leading Kannada producer.

BJP, RSS and Other Hardline Groups Warn Rajnikanth Over ‘Tipu Sultan’

Tamil actor Rajnikanth has been discouraged by the BJP, anti-Tamil groups and it allied organizations such as RSS for accepting the lead role in an upcoming movie project inspired by Tipu Sultan life. Tipu Sultan was one of the brave warriors who actively took part in during the initial freedom movements of India. He was the ruler of Mysore kingdom during the 18th century.

L Ganesan, a senior BJP leader, appealed superstar Rajnikanth not to act in the speculated movie Tipu Sultan. He said, “He (Rajinikanth) is my very good friend. I am sure he will not take up the role portraying Tipu Sultan as a hero. Tipu was an aggressor, who committed maximum atrocities against Hindus. Rajinikanth will never take up a role to portray such a character. Knowing the history, how can I be silent when there are attempts to glorify foreigners who invaded us and our culture.”

Tamil actor Rajnikanth has been pleaded by Ramagopalan who is a leader of Hindu Munnani group not to act in the Tipu Sultan movie. Hindu Munnani group which has been protesting a few socially sensitive issues based movie over a long time has been the initial one to invoke the actor not to be a part of the Tipu Sultan movie project. Hindu Munnani group leader Ram Gopalan quoted “During his ruling Tipu Sultan attacked and tortured Tamil origin people. A few portions of Tamil Nadu former chief minister M G Ramachandran autobiography briefs how Tipu Sultan’s attacks had forced his ancestors to shift from Coimbatore to Palakkad.”

Rajnikanth Should Turn Down Tipu Sultan

A few other groups with ample force such a Hindu Makkal Katchi expressed their support to the existing one’s joining them with on Saturday. Protesters have been claiming that they would make the protestations more intense where superstar would be held responsible for not complying with their demands. The Tamil actor was also warned by the rebel groups that they would be calling out a ban over his movie Tipu Sultan and will not allow the screening of the movie across the state of Tamil Nadu and nation. Hindu Makkal Katchi group state secretary, Senthil Kumar said, “Tipu Sultan was the leader who robbed this country. Rajinikanth is a person who portrays himself as a spiritual leader… Such a person should not be acting in a Tipu Sultan movie.”

Amid these strong opposition from various groups and political bodies sources close to superstar Rajnikanth stated that he hasn’t approved yet to act in the movie while he has been always been in accordance with his fans hence his decision would be disclosed soon in the interests of fans and well-wishers on being asked about the current stand of actor over Tipu Sultan. Kannada producer Ashok Kheny said, “We have not even started the project. During a function last week, I was asked about this plan, which I had in my mind earlier, and my reply to that question has now created a controversy. It is my dream project. A few years ago, I discussed this idea with Rajinikanth and he asked me to go ahead with the story and the script.

He never agreed, but he was interested in the story. He said it was a good idea. It was Tipu who fought British along with Hindu rulers. It was Tipu who opened trade routes to Persia and several other countries. He had even approached the American rulers to defeat British. What is in my mind is a large-scale movie that would show history, like the movie on the life of Gandhi” who is planning to make the movie.

Producer Ashok Kheny further added people were objecting just for publicity. He said, “Elephants walk and dogs bark.” “There was a Vishnu temple at Tipu’s fort and history says he used to go and pray there.
