Hardik Patel, a 21-year-old politician is fighting against the reservation and quota in government jobs and colleges for Gujarat’s wealthy community. Thus, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has also suggested reviewing the country’s reservation policy. RSS chief Mohan Bhagat stated that the policy is being used for political purpose and suggested that a committee made up of members of the civil society who are “committed for social equality,” be set up to examine who needs the benefit of reservation and for how long.

Mohan Bhagat Suggests To Review The Policy:

“Interest groups are formed because we have certain aspirations in democracy. At the same time, we should remember that through interest groups we should not strive to address those aspirations at the cost of others,” Mohan Bhagat said. “We should have the integral approach of welfare for all. It is sensible to realize that my interest lies in larger national interest. The government also has to be sensitive to these issues that there should not be any agitations for them.”

Mohan Bhagat also said, “The non-political committee like autonomous commissions should be the implementation authority; political authorities should supervise them for honesty and integrity.”  He questioned that the policy of reservation followed on social backwardness being extended is now not in line with what the authors of Indian constitution had in their mind.

“If we would have implemented this policy as envisaged by the Constitution makers instead of doing politics over it, then the situation would not have arrived. Since inception it has been politicized,” he said. Accusations being leveled against the Modi government of attempts to saffronize education, Bhagwat said the education policy needed changes based on “truth and authenticity” and that there be should be minimal interference from those in power.

He advised the government to be “sensitive to such issues that there should not be any agitations” for reservation. Hardik Patel has started the agitation to include the Patels or Patidars among caste’s in Gujarat. The demands of Hardik Patel were rejected by the Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, thus Hardik aimed both the central and state governments in this regard.
