Salman Khan Jailed for Five Years in hit-and-run case
The actor Salman Khan had rammed his car into the American Express Bakery in suburban Bandra on 28 September 2002, killing one person and injuring four others who were asleep on the footpath. The verdict is set to be announced around 11:15 am and Sallu Bhai’s fans on Twitter are already pleading to the gods, the judge and the universe to spare him some jail time.
Almost three years after the trial began, the Mumbai sessions court is likely to announce the verdict for the 2002 hit-and-run case involving Bollywood actor Salman Khan today. The hashtag #WeLoveYouSalmanKhan was the top trend on twitter this morning, with many fans saying that they were praying for the verdict to be in Salman’s favour.
An Indian court has sentenced Bollywood star Salman Khan to five years in jail for killing a homeless man in a 2002 hit-and-run driving incident in Mumbai.
Salman Khan faces 10 years’ Imprisonment:
Khan faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty following a trial whose every twist has been followed by the country’s media. The judgement in the over 12-year-old case, whose trial saw many twists and turns, can make the career of the actor on whom ride investments of over Rs 200 crore.
Public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat said he had presented the case as best he could to the Bombay sessions court judge, adding “we can only hope but cannot predict” a conviction.
