Scientists Develop Self-Propelled ‘Smart Skin’ To Give Robots Human-like Sense Of Touch

Robots are being used for an advanced living style in foreign countries. But there is only one thing that scientists are working on Robots is making them feel the objects. For this what scientists did is the developed a smart skin for Robots, with these Robots can feel the touch and sense objects around them. These changes can advance the technologies by Endowing robots and prosthetics with a human-like sense to Robots.

Chinese Scientists Develop Self-Propelled ‘Smart Skin’

Depending on the size of the skin they increased the number of electrodes by boosting their sensitivity. With this increased technologies they rise in costs. External batteries and wires to operate will add to their bulks. Making Robots feel their senses is an advanced stage we can say. Researchers from Peking University has created a smart skin in china, this is made out of ultra-thin plastic films also just four electrodes made from silver nano wires. There are about 36 electrodes that are present in this prototype.

One component will harvest mechanical energy – we can say this from the example movement of a prosthetic hand`s fingers which later turns into an electric current. Because of this, the skin would not require external energy or power source. Recent tests show that the skin is highly sensitive.

These systems can identify and feel a honeybee when it flew towards and away from the device. Here we can also see the demonstration of electrical stability, which maintains the same level of output over 30,000 cycles. The Journal ACS Nano published about this study.
