HRD Minister Smriti Irani and BSP Leader Mayawati Face Off Again In Rajya Sabha
On the first day of the budget session in Rajya Sabha, a heated conversation took place between HRD Minister Smriti Irani and BSP head Mayawati. They had face-off yet again when Mayawati said she was not convinced by HRD Minister statement with regards to Rohith Vemula’s suicide. Mayawati asked whether she would implement her two-day-old statement about chopping her head off.
The issue of Suicide by Rohith Vemula in Hyderabad University led to a clash between HRD Minister Smriti Irani and CPM leader Sitaram Yechury. Mayawati slammed the government for appointing a one-man judicial Commission of Former high court judge Ashok Kumar Roopanwal and demanded inclusion of a Dalit in the panel probing Rohit’s death.
“To my question whether a Dalit member is part of the Commission, the government has not answered this so far. On February 24, I had asked this question and it has not been answered so far. Justice Roopanwal is from the upper caste. Government’s intention is dubious on this. The government can increase the strength of the commission, and add a Dalit member, but it has not done this so far, which shows its intentions towards the Scheduled Castes, Mayawati said.
The Government’s intentions are now clear and it is trying to save the accused “who are from the RSS,” Mayawati added. BSP head said that Smriti Irani said she (Irani) will chop off her head and present it to her if BSP is not convinced. Since we are not convinced by the government’s clarification, will she (Irani) do that? asked Mayawati.
