Watch Video: Snake Trapped Within Its Own Skin While Shedding
One of the well-known facts about snakes is that they shed their skin for every certain period of time. This is scientifically termed as ecdysis, normally called as moulting or sloughing. The shedding process is all about taking off the upper layer after which the old and warm skin is replaced.
Shedding is like pulling a sock off your foot. In this video, we can see a Stimson Python which got trapped within itself after shedding the skin. It spent almost three hours inside its shredded skin.
This incident took place in Alice Springs Reptile Centre in Australia. The snake, named Tim by his handlers in Australia’s Northern Territory, eventually broke free from his self-inflicted entrapment. Rex Neindorf, the centre’s director, said he had not seen anything like this in his 30 years of working with snakes.
