Solar eclipse (March 09, 2016): The first Solar Eclipse of 2016 would occur on March 09 (the second solar eclipse would occur on September 1). It would be total Solar Eclipse of magnitude 1.045 which means that at the moment of greatest eclipse, the Sun would be completely hidden by the shadow of the moon. The longest duration of totality would be 4 minutes and 9 seconds.

The total Solar Eclipse would be observed from Pacific Ocean. Palembang, Palu, Palangkaraya and Ternate are few Indonesian cities to observe total Solar Eclipse. The partial Solar Eclipse would be visible from Australia, India, China, South Korea and Japan. While regions in the Indian Ocean will be able to see the total eclipse, India will reportedly witness only 12 percent of it in Hyderabad.

Solar Eclipse 2016 Timings

In India, the partial Solar Eclipse would be visible from most of the cities except some cities in western and northern India where none of the eclipse would be visible. Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Gurgaon, Guwahati, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Nagpur, New Delhi, Noida, Ujjain, and Varanasi would observe partial Solar Eclipse. Outside India, Kathmandu, Dhaka, Colombo, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Honolulu and Darwin are some of the big cities where partial Solar Eclipse would be visible.

However, none of the eclipse would be visible from Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Udaipur, Vadodara and Panaji of India. The eclipse would not be visible in Africa, Europe, North America, South America, and some northern and western countries of Asia. From Pakistan, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Afghanistan and Kazakhstan, none of the eclipse would be visible.

The total eclipse will begin at 23:19 UTC on March 8, 2016 (04:49 IST March 9), and its maximum point will take place at 0159 UTC (0630 IST) on that day.
