A statement released by President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka said anything that covers your face or “hinders the identification of individuals in a way that threatens national security” is now banned in the country.

The recent move was done after the Easter Bomb Blasts in Sri Lanka that killed more than 250 people and injured 500.

A statement that was released on Sunday said, “(President Maithripala Sirisena) has made this decision to strengthen national security as well as to not inconvenience any demographic group so as to create a peaceful and harmonious society in Sri Lanka.”

The ban applies to everything that will cover someone’s face, which includes helmets, niqabs, burqas, and masks.

The statement added, “All sorts of face covers that hinders the identification of individuals in a way that threatens national security shall be banned with effect from 29 April 2019 as per Emergency Regulations. The order specifies that the base criterion for identification is the ability to see the face of an individual clearly.”

A Burqa is a cloth that is worn by most of the Muslim Women which covers their entire body and has a mesh over their eyes.

A niqab is a full-face veil that has an opening of the eyes.

ISIS claimed the responsibility for bombing a number of churches and hotels which killed 250 people and injured more than 500.

The country is still on high alert and is trying to catch all those people who are linked with the group and the bombings.
