17 Killed, Several Injured in Stampede at ‘Godavari Pushkarallu 2015’ Rajahmundry
Much awaited auspicious event of the decade Godavari Pushkaralu 2015 have started in Andhra Pradesh by the state Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu. Although undforrunately due to failure of amdinsitration in devotees management and controlling the huge number of the pilgrims a stampede took place at Rajamundry which led to the death of 12 devotees as of now.

Andhra Pradesh state government Chief Minister Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu rushed to the incident site to take stock of the situation and instructed officials to begin relief work. Naidu had earlier in the day offered prayers to the river and blew a conch shell to mark the beginning of the 12-day event. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao performed the holy bath at Dharmapuri in Karimnagar district, kicking off the event in the state.
This years, Godavari Pushkaralu 2015 is believed to be occuring once in 144-year which is dedicated to worshipping rivers in the two Telugu speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangan began on Tuesday. The two state governments have claimed making elaborate arrangements in terms of convenience of pilgrims and also security for the smooth conduct of the event that is celebrated once in 12 years.
As per the Hindu Mythology Godavari Pushkaralu is observed once in 12 years and is considered auspicious from astronomical point of view as it is Maha Pushkaralu. Godavari Pushakaralu is similar to the Kumbh Mela’ and taking holy dip is the main ritual of the festival. Due to the huge turn up of people to the Rajahmundry Godavari Pushakara ghat has led to the stampede which killed 12 people.

It is speculated that many other people have been injured in the stampede at Godavari Pushkaralu Event in Andhra Pradesh whose condition is belived to be serious. The 12 day auspicious Godavari Pushkaralu is similar to the ‘Kumbh Mela’ which also began today.
