116-Year-Old Susannah Mushatt Jones, The Oldest Person In The World Died In New York
Susannah Mushatt Jones, who is known as the world’s oldest person has died. She lived through the two world wars and 20 US Presidencies. Her age is 116 years. It sounds great, Right? Ms. Jones died Friday at her home in Brooklyn. Jones was born in July 1899 on an Alabama farm. She was one of 11 children in the family.
Jones’ grandparents were slaves and her parents were crop pickers. She was graduated from high school in 1922. Then she moved to New York to work as a Nanny. There is helped to start a scholarship fund for young African-American women. Ms. Jones, known to loved ones as ‘Miss Susie’.
Ms. Jones was so good and active until her last breath, serving as a member of the tenant patrol of her nursing home until she was 106. Jones has a record that she has lived through more history than anyone else in the world. The main reason to live 116 years is that she maintained lots of sleep and no drinking and smoking.
Ms. Jones is also said to be the last living American-born in the 19th century. Jones was officially recorded in Guinness Book of World Records when 117-year-old Misao Okawa of Japan died last year. Following the death of Ms. Jones, the tag of the oldest person in the world now belongs to 116-year old Emma Morano, who lives in Verbena in Italy.
