Sushma Swaraj Promises Help To Pakistani Migrant Who Debarred From Taking Medical Test in India
The physical barrier between the two nations and stringent immigration regulations now come in the way of a girl realising her dream of becoming a doctor. Mashal Maheshwari, a 17-year-old Hindu girl of Pakistani origin, has been precluded from taking the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) because of her status as a foreigner. Mashal who dreamt of becoming a doctor is now running from pillar to post to prove herself eligible for the Medial Entrance examination.
Mashal Maheshwari a 17-year-old girl scored 91% in her class XII CBSE exams. Her parents are both doctors and came to India in 2014. Her family has already approached the Ministry of External Affairs and HRD Ministry.
Migrated From Pakistan Two Years Ago:
“I scored 91 percent in Class 12 examination with PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Bio). I wanted to take bio with medical. When I saw the PMT form, I found there were two categories: either one has to be an Indian or an NRI/OCI. But we do not come under any of the categories. So, the problem now is how I will appear for the exam,” she told ANI.
“We had come from Pakistan two years ago in the hope of better future. I took coaching for two years for medical. I wanted to study medical and be a doctor. My parents are doctors and I also wanted to help the people. Which field can be better than this,” she said.
A Ray Of Hope From Sushma Swaraj:
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has taken note of her problem and promised to intervene personally in her admission. She tweeted “Mashal – Don’t be disappointed, my child. I will personally take up your case for admission in a Medical College”.

Hindu Singh Sodha of the Seemant Lok Sangathan, an organisation working with Pakistani Hindu migrants, said, “First the government allows them to seek refuge here to escape religious persecution, and then treats them as Pakistani nationals. If the government can’t provide them opportunities, they should not be allowed to come here.”
Not only Mashal there are many people suffering fro the nationality issue. According to The Hindu Singh Sodha of the Seemant Lok Sangathan, an NGO, 15,000 Pakistani Hindus living in Rajasthan are unable to access basic facilities because they don’t have Indian documents.
