Tax Department Slams Gaali Janardhan Reddy With A 3-Page Notice, Demands Answers On His Daughter’s Grand Wedding
Indian Politician and Businessman Gaali Janardhan Reddy recently re-appeared in media for the huge expenditure on his daughter’s wedding held at Palace Grounds, Bangalore. Sources claim that he spent 500 crores for his daughter wedding.
Income tax department probed an inquiry on Janardhan reddy’s earnings and demanded to show his accounts. People involved in the wedding ceremony were taken under the control of IT department. The suspects include priests, security guards, and pandal suppliers.
Sources claim that the Income tax department has released a 3-page notice to Janardhan reddy demanding the answers on the expenditures of the wedding.
The wedding ceremony topped the headlines for its unusual activities like LCD-screen invitation cards, the recreation of the Vijayanagara empire by erecting massive sets on the 35-acre wedding venue, and a list of 50,000 guests.
The pre-marriage news even stated that Janardhan Reddy has booked 1,500 rooms in star hotels to accommodate them. There will also be 2,000 cabs to ferry them to the venue, while 15 helipads have also been set-up to fly in VIP guests. The VVIP guests will be ferried from the entrance to the mandap area on cushioned bullock carts.
Janardhan dismissed the news and claimed that he has spent only 35 crores on his daughter’s wedding but it is believed that the expenses for his daughter’s bridal dress and jewellery together alone counted Rs 100 crore, addition to this Rs 20 crore each on food and the palatial setting of the Vijayanagara empire that altogether makes Rs 200 crores.
The wedding ceremony happened around in the week of currency demonetization, which adds more conceptions to the issue on the expenditure of hundreds of crores.
Tax department sources said: “We’ve been gathering information for the past two months. We waited for the wedding to get over and have now issued a notice to him under Section 135 A (5) of the Income Tax Act, 196. He has been directed to reply before November 25.”
November 25 is concluded as the deadline for Janardhan Reddy to submit reports.
The I-T department collected the data regarding the number of guests, details of credit and debit card transactions, and the money spent on return gifts during marriage event.
