The Government Received 75,000 Applications For 30 PEON Posts Which Proves Unemployment In India

Unemployment is a serious social issue which had proved when the State Government’s Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Chhattisgarh had released a notification for 30 vacancies.

As the government job is known for job security and many other benefits, students who all complete their studies are tending to get government job. But it is difficult for a student to get government job in India under such a big competition. Thus when any job notification was released, there are loads of applicants applying for jobs.

However, the flood of applicants for the post of a POEN in the Directorate of Economics and Statistics in Chhattisgarh showed just how highly disproportionate the jobs to applicants ratio is in many parts of India. An unprecedented 75,000 people applied for the position that only has 30 vacancies available, according to a report.

The Directorate received 70,000 online applications and 5000 post applications that included requisitions from qualified engineers and management graduates. The examination now stands cancelled and the entire process is being investigated. Amitabh Panda, the Directorate head, called the entire incident “surreal”. He further added, “We had made arrangements for 2,000 to 3,000 aspirants.” Government jobs still remain the most sought-after in the country.

“The challenge faced by our young people, in terms of unemployment or underemployment, is enormous. Awareness must be created at high-school level about various options available in other sectors as well,” said noted academician Jawahar Surisetti. Indeed, this incident highlights the issue of unemployment and under employment in India.
