Lightning in the sky is a bright flash of light created by electric discharge between clouds or between cloud and the ground or any object on the ground. Lightning takes place when there is a thunderstorm, as well as during volcanic eruptions. Lightning is approximately 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit. That is six times hotter than the surface of the sun! Contrary to popular belief, lightning can strike the same place twice, especially tall buildings. Lightning can travel very quickly, with speeds of more than 60,000 meters per second.
