Vasanth Paul, who was on his way home after watching the first-day first show of Kabali, says he stopped near a bridge in the Alandur area for a smoke and heard the mourning sounds combined with sounds of resistance. He then noticed a woman who seemed drugged, being assaulted by three men and calling out for help. Rather than fearing that he couldn’t do anything because he was alone, he immediately jumped to her rescue and saved her. In the process, he was strangled with a jute rope by one of the assailants. But, he didn’t give up. A passing autorickshaw driver apparently heard Paul and the woman’s cries for help and together, they managed to chase away the attackers.

Paul has written about the incident in a Facebook post which has gone viral. Here is Paul’s complete Facebook post:

This guy, who bravely intervened to rescue the girl, reminds us that just because you are alone, don’t be afraid to face a situation. If the cause is right, the world would join you right away!
