Thousands Of Lions Are Being Bred On Farms In South Africa Are Being Killed By Rich Trophy Hunters

A report from a recently conducted study reveals that thousands of lions are being bred in South African farms just to be killed by rich trophy hunters that are willing to pay up to £42,000 per lion.

The study also found out that lions are being butchered and are used for medicinal purposes after they are sold to buyers.

The revelations came to light after a 1-year investigation was done in South Africa by Conservative Peer, Lord Ashcroft.

The study was published yesterday, and in one of its reports, they found out that rich hunters are willing to pay £42,000 to kill a lion, this also depends on how big the lion is, so basically, the bigger the lion the more you have to pay.

The study also claims that nearly 50 lions were killed in just 2 days at 1 eco-farm.

According to the study, the lions were kept inside tiny cages and were forced to endure appalling conditions in a farm that is a slaughterhouse before they were killed.

In one of the reports, images and videos of rich tourists shooting lions with tranquilizer darts during an illegal hunt were also published.

The study also says that the tourists who shoot at the lions do not know that they shot animals that were raised for such activities.

Tory Peer is hoping to put an end on the illegal industry, he said, “My year-long probe lifts the lid on barbaric and illegal practices at the heart of South Africa’s deeply shameful lion trade. The investigation shows how up to 12,000 lions bred in captivity are destined either to be shot by wealthy hunters – in what is often a pathetic charade of a hunt – or killed in squalid abattoirs so their bones can be exported to the Far East.”

He added, “Britain’s complicity in lion farming is also laid bare by my undercover investigators, which includes ex-Special Forces soldiers, who have exposed how hunters and middlemen from this country are involved in the despicable trade.”

The report also said that South Africa is allowing nearly 800 skeletons of captive-bred lion skeletons to be exported out of the country per year, a kilo of the skeleton is worth £125 and an entire skeleton is worth around £4,600.

Most of the sales are done in Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand, where the bones are used in cakes.

Many campaigners believe that there could be more animals that are leaving South Africa.

Dr. Mark Jones the head of policy at the Born Free Foundation said, “Far from contributing to wild lion protection, captive lion breeding facilities cynically exploit these animals at every stage for profit. Ultimately many of these animals will end up in canned hunts or as part of the bone trade. It’s factory farming by another name.”
