[VIDEO] This Bus Can Drive Over The Top Of Other Cars To Beat Traffic Jams
Getting stuck in a traffic jam can be one of the most frustrating parts of travelling around a busy city. For China, being the world’s most populated country, this problem could be even worse. Hence, the engineers in China, have come up with a way to overcome the problem of its crazy traffic jams.
A Transit Elevated Bus (TEB) would see passengers ride above the traffic below with stops placed along the route in a similar system to the subway. The bus is high enough to glide over the top of other vehicles, such as cars, allowing traffic to pass underneath while increasing road space. A scale model of the bus was unveiled just a few days ago at the 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo, and it certainly attracted some attention.
Watch the Video Here:
In a model of the vehicle, it appears to run on a set of fixed rails embedded on the road. It means the vehicle is more like a cross between a tram and a bus. An elevator would allow passengers to board from street level, similar to an above ground train system. The bus will apparently be able to carry 1,200 passengers. It is also expected to save costs compared to other public transport options, like the subway.
Engineers hope the design will increase the availability of the road space, and cause fewer traffic jams than regular buses. The first tests of the bus are scheduled to start trial operation in Qinhuangdao City, in the second half of this year. This means the buses could be in place by the end of the year.
