Vijay Mallya Not Cooperating in Probe: Banks Tell SC
In front of Supreme Court, the Banks says that Mallya who is in the United Kingdom now is not supporting or cooperating the investigation of cases against him and was interested in foreign assets. With the beleaguered businessman, the consortium said that it is significant with his family and himself in the disclosure of overseas assets.
Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said, “We have filed a rejoinder to Mallya’s affidavit in which it has been stated that he is also not indicating the date of his return to the country.”
He also said, “the liquor baron has also not agreed to deposit “substantial amount” as part of Rs 9,400 crore loan due on him to establish his bonafide”.
“We have nothing to do with Mallya’s claim that he cannot appear personally because of government’s action against him,” said the banks in its affidavit. This is listed for hearing on Tuesday.
In response to Mallya`s affidavit, the rejoinder was filed in which it is said that banks will not have any right regarding the overseas movable and immovable assets as he says that he was an NRI since 1988.
He also says that he was not obliged to disclose all the overseas assets. Along with him, his three children and wife are US citizens also need not disclose the assets. “Overseas assets were not considered while granting loans,” he said in his statement.
He is said to demonstrate his bonafide along with his companies an aggregate of Rs 1591 crore can be deposited at the apex court. Whereas the court said Mallya to disclose his assets by 21st April he owned and also his family in India and also abroad taking an indication.
