Here is the letter

——

Dear Volkswagen, It’s been quite some time since I have been contemplating writing this letter to you. And if I don’t do this now it would be big injustice. volkswagen saved a life

I am Donny George an employee of ABB, Germany living with my wife and six months old daughter in Southern Germany. As part of my profession I travel quiet frequently by road to be part of important meetings with my clients.

I have always given high importance to the safety aspect of the car I use in addition to the various gadgets which help me for a comfortable driving experience. This has helped me always to reach back home safely to the warmth of my family.

Unfortunately I met with an accident on June 22, 2015 in Löffingen where I had a collision with a truck coming from the opposite direction. For a moment I could recollect the loud crash and it was completely dark. I thought everything was over. I could see the image of my wife and kid infront me and I was not sure how or when or if I would ever meet them again.

When I opened my eyes I saw destruction everywhere. I knew I was bleeding profusely. The stench of an accident was written all over the street. It was also not easy to keep eyes open as I realized I had glass pieces in my eyes. I had trouble getting breath and this made it even severe. Within few minutes someone reached out to me by side of my car and started asking about my whereabouts. He promised me that help was on the way. He asked me to keep my eyes open and keep talking in case I lost my consciousness. I was eager to live and did as he said.

After some time help arrived in form of medics and firefighters. The medics could not get access to me as I was sitting in a crushed car which had collided head on with a truck at around 100 kmph. Decisions were made in a snap and it was decided to cut open the roof of the car to get me out. As I sat there gasping for breath and holding on to the life which I dearly wanted back the firefighters started cutting the metal frame one by one. The grinding sound and the strong rigorous vibration was not easy to withstand as the pain only increased. However within minutes I had fresh air as the top was literally detached. And now they had to get me on a stretcher. With front doors not opening they had to lift me up. And I had to use my leg, although with slight pain I was relieved that my legs were still functioning. But my upper body ached for some reason I didn’t know.

After giving first aid I was transferred to an ambulance helicopter to be flown to nearby Medical Hospital. Once at the hospital all forms of tests were taken to make sure I had no internal bleeding or internal damage to any of my vital organs. Within hours the positive results came back to my delight that I was safe and sound in all of its sense. Although I was kept under observation in the Intensive care for the next 4 days with intense chest pain my pleasure to have come out of the accident fully healthy was enormous.

To see my little daughter once I was shifted to the normal ward, to see her smile again. I might have not been able to pick her up but these are emotions cannot be describe in words.

I was discharged on the fifth day and was recommended rest for further two weeks in order to gain the strength for my upper body. It was not easy however with an urge to live and with family to support everything cruised to normality in my life.

I still can’t recollect the reason for the collision but I know for one that I can’t thank you enough for the Volkswagen Passact CC which acted as my savior. Other than those minor scratches and chest pain I escaped unscathed from this major debacle.

And I owe this second life to you

To you the management who oversee the overall development of such a beautiful machine To you the engineers who put in years of hard work to produce a magnificent machine To you Volkswagen for being the peoples car which not only drives but also stands up for peoples life I hope you will continue to strive for safety forever and touch the lives of the common people like me.

Dankeschön

This proves that comfort, style, design are far less compared to safety in cars. What do you feel about the letter? Do let us know in the comment section below. Stay tuned to All India RoundUp for more updates.
