Volkswagen Likely To Recall 1 Lakh Diesel Vehicles In India By 8 November As A Result Of The Diesel Emission Scandal!
German carmaker Volkswagen AG’s Indian unit is likely to recall 1,00,000 cars in the country following an unsatisfactory report from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) on compliance with Indian emission norms. The recall in India, expected to happen before November 8. While the US and Europe erupted in anger over the diesel scandal, there wasn’t even so much as a noticeable whisper, in comparison, in India.
Impact On Indian manufactured diesel engines:
This recall will affect 1.5 litre Polo GT TDI, 1.5 litre Polo Cross TDI, 1.5 litre Vento TDI, 2.0 Litre Jetta, 2.0 Litre Passat and will include 20,000 units of India-made diesel cars.
In addition, this move will impact cars with imported diesel engines as well as the Indian manufactured diesel engines, which VW had began producing at its new facility in Chakan in Jan 2015.
Although there has been no official statement from Volkswagen so far about the recall. “The company is still investigating the matter and any decision on a recall is yet to be made,” a Volkswagen India spokesman said.
ARAI is still working on collecting data on Volkswagen vehicles and plans to submit a report to the government by the end of this month, the agency said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.
