India is set to celebrate its 67th Republic Day on Tuesday, with French President Francois Hollande as chief guest at Rajpath in Delhi, a year after US President Barack Obama did the honours. Republic Day of India is celebrated by its citizens to remembering the day the Constitution of India came into effect. There is high alert in the capital and in much of the country due to threats of possible terror attacks, especially after authorities busted terror cells in several states in recent days.

Though India attained Independence on 15th August 1947 while till the year 1949 there wasn’t been any constitution framed permanently for the nation, thus it was the day when world’s largest democracy’s constitution came in to existence.

The Republic Day Parade takes places along Rajpath, in Delhi. Its route, which is more than five kilometers long, sets out from Raisina Hill near Rashtrapati Bhavan (President’s Palace) and follows Rajpath past India Gate and on to the Red Fort.
