A shocking video footage showing an elderly woman being assaulted by her daughter at their home in Delhi was circulated widely on social media on Monday. In the video, a woman was found dragging and slapping her elderly ailing mother, who was sitting in her balcony.

The incident came to light after the video recorded by one of the neighbors went viral on social media sites. The neighbors did raise their voice, which did create a sense of fear in the woman, after which she is seen arguing with the neighbors while the elderly woman was seen crying.

The neighbor also called the police control room (PCR) and reported the incident to the police, following which a police team was sent to the elderly woman’s house and asked her to file a complaint against her daughter. She, however, refused to lodge the complaint, saying it was a family issue and she did not want any action against her daughter.

The elderly woman is a widow and lives alone in her fourth-floor apartment of the DDA flats in Kalkaji area of south Delhi. Her daughter, also a widow, often visits her house, a police official said. “We will counsel both the women and ensure that this doesn’t happen again,” he added.
