Chennai: A 24-year-old woman employee working with Infosys was brutally hacked to death at Nungambakkam railway station in Chennai on Friday morning.

According to reports, the woman identified as Swathi works in Infosys and was a resident of South Gangai Amman Koil Street, Choolaimedu. She was waiting at the platform to board a train to work when a young man approached her. Soon, an argument broke out between them and subsequently, he took out a sharp weapon from a bag that he was carrying and hacked her to death. The incident took place around 6.30 am.

Soon after the attack, the man fled the spot. Swathi was left bleeding to death on the railway platform with several cut injuries on her face and neck, which is frequented thousands of passengers every day. Her body was lying on the platform for nearly 2 hours before police made arrangements to shift it to a mortuary.

The railway police have registered a case and are investigating. From the preliminary clues, police suspect the assailant to be someone acquainted to Swathi and are speaking to her relatives, friends to find out whom they suspect on. It is learnt that a cab driver had fought with her last week. Police are investigating that angle too.

Police released the footage of the killer. There were no RPF personnel at the station nor a security camera.A Government Railway Police (GRP) team rushed to the spot but didn’t move the body to a hospital for more than an hour and a half. There are no CCTV cameras installed at the station, which makes it tougher for the police to zero in on the attacker.
