We often hear about eve teasing/molestation that the woman face in the society but what makes this story different is the immense courage shown by this girl. Thanks to Remi Rusha Sen’s brave act, her molester is behind bars.

25-year-old Bangalore resident Remi Rusha Sen was walking home from her work around 8.45 pm on Tuesday night when a drunken pervert who felt her up in the middle of a bustling street. Instead of letting it pass as the staple nuisance women face, Sen decided to take him on. She gathered her wits, chased him till she caught up with him, nabbed him and then complained to the police.

Remi Rusha Sen, who is an senior executive at Bangalore’s JW Marriott, was crossing the busy Vittal Mallya Road at around 8:45 pm. Moments after she crossed the road from the Marriott hotel to her apartment – about 150 meters away – an unidentified pervert sitting in the backseat of a passing auto rickshaw grabbed her backside and tried to pull her skirt down.

Sen screamed and turned around to see the auto speeding away towards Lavelle Road. Though shocked, Sen was quick to gather her wits and gave a chase to the molester. She immediately caught an auto and chased the pervert’s auto for half a kilometer before apprehending him in front of the Navnit Motors on Lavelle Road.

The high drama gathered a huge crowd in support of the victim. Sen had, during her chase, called her boss and informed him of what had happened. Her boss called the Cubbon Park Police, who had arrived at the spot soon.

Recalling the incident Sen told the Bangalore Mirror:  “I called my F&B director, Jolly, and told him what happened. He then called the police and all of them rushed to the spot to help. There was a strong stench of alcohol emanating from the pervert, and he began pleading for mercy claiming he hailed from a good family, and was married with children, but I refused to listen.”

She then went on to lodge an FIR against the accused. The cops discovered that the pervert was a former auto rickshaw driver, whose vehicle had been seized a few months ago.

Sen was all praises for the cops and said they encouraged her action and were very supportive. “The police were very cooperative and encouraging of my actions. They said most victims of eve-teasing did not stand up for themselves, whereas apprehending the pervert and filing a complaint would send out a strong message. Police are also collecting CCTV footage from the camera installed at the exit gate of UB City as evidence; and the pervert was produced in front of a magistrate on Thursday and sent to prison,” she added.

Sen who belongs to Kolkata has been a resident of Bengaluru for past 10 years but this was the first time such an incident has taken place with her. “If this can happen to someone just crossing the road home from their workplace on a busy street like Vittal Mallya Road, I shudder to imagine what could happen anywhere else. I’m grateful that the police reacted instantly,” she said.

The deputy commissioner of police (Central), Sandeep Patil was also praises about Sen and said the victim showed great presence of mind.
