Yoga Compulsory Subject in Govt Schools With 80% Practicals and 20% Theory

Disclosing and bringing out the yoga syllabus Union Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani says that Yoga would be made a compulsory subject in Central government schools with 80% of the syllabus will be practicals while 20% will be theoretical. Al the central government schools which come under the Ministry of Human Resource would be making ‘Yoga’ as a compulsory for students of classes VI to X.

Union Minister of Human Resource Development Smriti Irani added that a national-level competition on Yoga would held in national capital New Delhi from next year where the best performing student will be given a cash prize of Rs five lakh in this regard. Newly framed syllabus and course material for the students on Yoga was unvieled by HRD Minister Smriti Irani on Monday.

A day after the International Yoga Day celebration which saw participation of hundreds of school students and teachers on this occcasion she said “However, I want an assurance from students that they will perform the practicals with full devotion” while addressing the nation. She further added while talking to the reporters that the states are free to decide on adopting it in their syllabus and to link with their the course curriculum.

Smriti Irani also reported that there will be a training module on yoga for teacher education programme. The main objective of this module would be to produce a pool of trained teachers in yoga who meet the upcoming demands. MHRD governing body has prepared syllabus for teaches as well who would be trained later for effective results. Academic programmes such as diploma in yoga education, bachelors in yoga education and masters in yoga education have been framed and structurised for teahcers.

National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has revised the made yoga a compulsory training module along with ICT, gender studies and inclusive education in its revised notification. Stay tuned with us for more info and trending updates.
