Gujarat: 100 Kilograms Of Heroin Worth Rs. 500 Crores Seized From 9 Iranians

Police Report: An attempt of smuggling 100 kilograms of heroin worth Rs. 500 crores was made by 9 Iranian nationals, the attempt was stopped by the Coast Guard and the Anti-Terrorism Squad personnel.

After the boat was stopped by the officials, the crew set it on fire and tried to destroy the drugs that were on board. The Anti-Terrorism Squad did arrest 9 Iranians from the vessel.

The operation was done on Tuesday by the Coast Guard of Gujarat and the states Anti-Terrorism Squad.

Officials added that the boat was coming from Gwadar Port, Pakistan.

The occupants of the boat set it on fire after they saw the ATS and the Coast Guard personnel coming towards them.

The boat sank off the coast of Gujarat near Porbandar.

The release said, “The interrogation of nine Iranian nationals from the smuggler’s boat revealed one Pakistani national named Hamid Malek had sent the consignment, which was loaded in the Iranian boat off Gwadar port of Pakistan. The total value of the 100 kg contraband is estimated to be Rs. 500 crore.”

The Anti-Terrorism Squad of Gujarat received a piece of information about a boat that will smuggle heroin in India through the coast of Gujarat.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad reached out to the Coast Guard and the Marine Task Force of Gujarat to launch an operation that will stop the Iranians from smuggling the drugs into the country.

The release added, “Officers of ATS boarded the ICG’s fast patrol vessel (FPV) and a joint search was started. Commandos of Marine Task Force of Gujarat police were kept in boats in territorial waters to help in apprehending the smugglers.”

The Anti-Terrorism Squad said that the information that they received was only limited and they only had the communication frequency to identify the boat that will be used to smuggle the drugs.

The release said, “After more than 24 hours of search, a suspicious boat was identified while making an attempt to communicate in the particular frequency.”

After the ship of the Coast Guard started to follow the boat and when they asked the crew to stop the vessel, they tried to escape.

Eventually, the crew of the boat set it on fire as an attempt to destroy every evidence they had on the ship.

The boat eventually sank, but the 9 members that were onboard were rescued by the coast guard, they were also arrested and 100 kilograms of heroin that is worth Rs. 500 crores were seized from the boat.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad added that they have identified the boat that was about to receive the consignment.
