BSNL Slashes Mobile Call Rates By Up to 80 Percent For New Customers

The State government-owned telecom service provider, Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited (BSNL) has decreased mobile call tariffs by up to 80 percent for the first two months under a scheme for new BSNL subscribers in its attempt to boost up the customer acquisition.  BSNL has announced a new scheme which is only applicable to its new customers so as to speed up its subscriber base.

The company has introduced this new scheme where all the new BSNL subscribers can make calls at a lowered cost as the call rates have been reduced both per minute and per second billing plan. However, this reduced call rates scheme will be valid only for the first two months of a customer’s joining BSNL.

Anupam Shrivastava, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL said, “BSNL has revamped its infrastructure now. We have decided to cut mobile call rates by up to 80 percent for a new customer so that they get an experience of our revamped services.”

A new customer purchasing a new BSNL connection will have to purchase a plan voucher of Rs 36 for per second plan and Rs 37 for per minute plan. This purchase plan voucher will be applicable to the customers who wishes to migrate to BSNL network from their existing service provider. This migration is known as MNP (Mobile Number Portability).

The customers who opt for Rs 37 per minute scheme will be charged 10 paise per minute for making local as well as STD calls within BSNL and 30 paise per minute on other networks. Likewise, once after recharging a mobile phone for Rs. 36, the customer will be charged 1 paisa for every 3-second duration on local and STD calls made within BSNL network and 2 paise for 3 seconds on other networks.

The state-owned telecom service provider has also allowed mobile number portability (MNP) positive with 1,57,564 people joining network customers and 1,24,158 leaving its network between July to November period. BSNL mobile customer base stood at 79.6 million at the end of September and the company placed among top 5 players in terms of new subscriber addition during the month.
