Maha Govt. Approves Anti Spitting Law Charging Rs 1,000 and Day’s Social Work
Maharashtra State cabinet comes up with radical policy surprising the frequent spitters chewing pan masala and other mouth refreshing consumables. Maharashtra cabinet let by the Chief Devendra Fadnavis ascended with an innovative anti-spitting law approved on Tuesday in the country which combines monetary punishment with mandatory community service for the people spitting in streets, roads and other public places.

Citizens caught spitting on roads, in busses, streets and many other public places for the first time would be now compelled to dish out Rs 1,000 as fine and should spend a day out to do social work at a public hospital or a government office as per the newly framed anti-spitting law of Maharashtra Government.
Citizens caught for the second time violating the law would be charged with Rs 3,000 plus as fine and they need to serve three-day community service. If some dares enough to violate the law again by spitting and making the public places filthy they would charged with Rs 5,000 and added to this they need to serve five-day community service. Collected fined amount would be spent on healthcare services as the Ministry of Heath, Maharashtra.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at a press conference said “We have discussed the issue in the cabinet meeting and decided to form a committee led by health minister Dr Deepak Sawant. Their report will be submitted within a month.” after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning.
Maharashtra Health Minister Dr Deepak Sawant who was working on the draft for months claimed “the law will be in place within the next six months. The anti-spitting bill will now have to cleared in both the state legislature houses. The offender should do community service in a government hospital or office, like take on sweeping for a day or more. Designated officers will be appointed in every establishment.”

Maha Anti-Spitting Law May Denigrate Tobacco Chewing
Anti-spitting law of Maharashtra government may act as a harbinger derogating and banning the tobacco chewing in public. Tata Memorial Hospital cancer specialist and anti-tobacco activist Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi from Tata Memorial Hospital quoted “The harms of passive smoking led to the ban on smoking in public places. Now, the recognition about how spitting can spread infectious diseases will lead to a ban on chewing tobacco at public places” while sharing his views about anti-spitting law welcoming it.
People addicted to tobacco may avoid it as while chewing tobacco it stimulates the salivary glands to produce more saliva and compels the person chewing it to spit which may make them to shell out 1000 bucks as penalty for an 5 clams tobacco.

Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi further added “The harms of passive smoking led to the ban on smoking in public places. Now, the recognition about how spitting can spread infectious diseases will lead to a ban on chewing tobacco at public places.” Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai Executive Health Officer Dr A Bamne said “An anti-spitting law would bring down transmission of all airborne diseases. It will also affect the tobacco-chewing habit as people will be restrained from spitting out tobacco. This is a move towards a healthy lifestyle.”
Anti-spit law is being framed by a group of four ministers have been nominated to work out the bill’s modalities. Dr A Bamne further added “The committee will give a report to the government at the end of monsoon session. It will frame rules to be followed and recalled a bye-law on anti-spitting or littering in public places of BMC which failed. I would like to assure that there would be no political intervention with the anti-spitting law.”

As a part of the anti-spitting law Maharashtra government in planning to assimilate the CCTV network to look for offenders and to develop a software to track offenders of law. Doesn’t this step of Maharashtra government needs an appreciation which aims at Swach Bharat.
