Mi India, Xiaomi’s India subsidiary has announced the launch of a new insurance service for Mi smartphones and tablet users in India. Today, the company had officially announced the launch of this new service for the Mi smartphones and tablet devices selling in India. The Mi Protect service will be available for Xiaomi devices that can be purchased from mi.com and it is only applicable for the devices that are purchased from mi.com.

The Mi Protect plan comes with free pick-up and drop-off services and the company also announced that the consumer will also get a free servicing for the second time within a year of activation. The company hasn’t given any clarity regarding the offer whether it extends to Xiaomi devices that are purchased off Flipkart. Mi India has listed the pricing plans for the devices purchased in mi.com.

Mi Protect Insurance – Pricing Plans

Mi Protect insurance service will be applicable for the devices that get damage like accidental liquid damage, doorstep pickup-drop service, SIM card blocking, and free second servicing within one year from activation. The Mi Protect plans start from Rs 275 and go up to Rs 499 depending upon the device. Here is the complete price list for Mi devices coming with the Mi Protect plan.

The insurance cover for a Redmi 2 and a Redmi 2 Prime costs Rs. 275, while the cover for devices like Xiaomi Mi 4i, Mi Pad and the Mi 4 16GB variant costs Rs 499.

As per the guidelines of a standard insurance claim, the user will have to pay a nominal fee of 3 percent of the repair cost or Rs 300 (whichever is higher) while claiming the protection against the Mi phone. The pricing plans of Mi Protect insurance service is very competitive when compared to other independent insurance available in offline and online space.

In case you purchase a new Mi device, the Mi Protect plan on your previous device can also be transferred to the new device. If you don’t want to transfer it to your new device, you can also cancel it within 30 days of activation if there is no claim on your membership.
